The Pirate of Suburbia

The Pirate of Suburbia, no he doesn't have a ship, crew, or booty but he sure does have one thing... a stache.

Anyways, I'm super stoked... were getting a Hayden Wake website and I needed to get some shots for the coaches section so I grabbed the local pirate and tried some things out to see what I wanted to do for the coaches shoot.

This was one of the first times I've used my strobes for portraits and I was really happy with the results. All these are shot with strobes, I have a shoot through umbrella that I was using for the indoor stuff but it really didn't cut it... I really want to get some soft boxes.

As for the photo ideas I'm planning to do something similar as the first and the last shot for the Hayden Wake shoot but I'll definitely be in a different location and instead of a suburban pirate we'll have a boat and riders. I really like the flash/sun balance, the back lighting on the clouds, and the natural rim light from the sun. With this type of shot the sky has a huge effect on the feel of the shot, I'm waiting for the next stormy day to get some different cloud cover... I'll lose the sun but how epic would a thunderstorm background with lightning as the rim be on this shot? Pretty sick in my opinion... it'll probably take some patience but hopefully I'll eventually get it.

Enjoy:
